Inclusion by Design: A Whole-Setting Approach to SEND, Safeguarding and Inclusion.

Drawing on the DfE’s new Inclusion Bases in Schools guidance, the course explores key areas including being inclusive by design, the role of inclusion bases within a whole-setting approach, developing and embedding an effective inclusion strategy, and the critical alignment between inclusion and safeguarding. The course also reflects the guidance's emphasis on creating inclusive cultures, effective leadership, partnership working, accessible learning environments, and ensuring that inclusion bases act as a source of expertise that strengthens provision across the whole setting.

Bringing together the key strands of effective inclusive practice, this course also provides insight into the direction of upcoming SEND reforms, ensuring schools are well positioned to prepare for future developments. The course will help participants evaluate their current approach to inclusion, identify priorities for improvement, and develop practical strategies to ensure all children and young people can achieve and thrive within their educational setting.

Designed by highly experienced senior managers, the course addresses key dilemmas in balancing the needs of the organisation, the employee and the young people to create a different kind of conversation which both supervisees and supervisors find effective.

New to the Role - DSL Training

This ‘New to the Role - DSL Training’ programme seeks to support newly appointed Designated Safeguarding Leads and Deputies so that they are confident in taking on this important responsibility. The programme incorporates one and a half day training to underpin knowledge and skills, followed up by a further half day workshop which focuses on a review of practice and knowledge and opportunity for reflection, feeding into the reflective lessons learned thread of a safeguarding culture.

DSL Support Programme

This 12-hour course seeks to grow the confidence of Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) and their deputies, building on their initial DSL training. Looking at the challenges of the role, the course seeks to address compliance with statutory guidance, share good practice and consider how to create a whole setting safeguarding culture.

As a Designated Safeguarding Lead (or Deputy) attending this programme, you will:

• Enhance your understanding of your role and your responsibilities in ensuring your setting meets statutory requirements and Ofsted expectations.

• Expand your skills and abilities in relation to capturing and responding to the child’s voice in your setting.

• Increase your knowledge and skills so that you can carry out your role more effectively, including recognising, responding, and recording all levels of concern, including allegations made about staff.

• Increase your understanding of the safeguarding and child protection process.

• Recognise the importance of developing a whole-setting strategic approach to safeguarding and gain skills in implementing a safeguarding culture.

• Learn strategies to help you practice reflectively in your safeguarding work.

• Recognise the importance of maintaining personal wellbeing, and the strategies to do so.

• Create a peer network and share good practice through a whole term of learning and support.
