Supervision Package

With a bespoke approach to suit any circumstance, our tailored packages provide essential support and supervision for DSLs and wider safeguarding teams.

“Lead practitioners should have access to high quality supervision.”

Working Together to Safeguard Children

Inadequate staff supervision is often highlighted by Ofsted.

Supervision ensures work with young people is effective, safe and follows procedures. It helps staff manage the complicated feelings that arise and sometimes distort the way in which we respond to incidents and concerns.

Create a tailored Supervision package to suit your setting.

What you will receive:

• Highly trained supervisors with a depth of safeguarding practice backgrounds and a good understanding of the role of the DSL.

• Supervisors that are matched to your supervisee(s) and organisation with pre-agreed ring-fenced time.

• Choice of both individual and group supervision, with optional emergency call off time as required.

• A supervision agreement between the supervisor and supervisee(s) which underpins the relationship with all those involved.

• Formal written record created by the supervisor agreed with supervisee(s) with sections that can be lifted out for and copied to individual children’s files as required.

Benefits:

  • Provide support for your DSLs, Senior Leaders and safeguarding staff so their work is safe and effective for them and the children in their care.

  • Build a culture where safeguarding encompasses everyone at the setting.

  • Build a team that knows they are valued, and their voices will be heard.

  • Help support the mental health of your DSLs and their teams.

  • Evidence a regular, effective and supportive supervision programme with a structured agenda.

Perfect for:

  • DSLs, Senior Leaders and all safeguarding staff.

"Doing the job we do to Safeguarding our children in schools, it is imperative that we look after ourselves. Abi has been an incredible support to both myself as DSL and my DDSL team this past year. Her advice is always professional, she is calm and always listens, coaching and mentoring to enable us to manage, at times, the impossible.

We cannot recommend this supportive supervision enough, it has made a real difference to our team and enabled us to continue to provide the best possible safeguarding for our children."

Laura Dominey. Deputy Headteacher & DSL. Lytchett Matravers Primary School

FAQs

  1. I’m confused, I already have a manager. Does Safeguarding Supervision replace line management?

No, Safeguarding Supervision does not replace your normal line management. Things discussed in Safeguarding Supervision and any actions agreed are intended to complement and enhance the quality of your safeguarding practice. Your line manager remains responsible for managing your work.

  2. I am so busy with all of my safeguarding work, how am I meant to find time for regular meetings with someone else?

Safeguarding work is often stressful and almost always unpredictable. Taking time to organise your thoughts, reflect on what is happening and consider what to do next will likely increase your efficiency and abilities.

  3. Is what I say in Safeguarding Supervision confidential?

The Supervision meetings are confidential. Information can be shared within the organisation where agreed, however it will not be shared outside of the organisation unless there are safeguarding concerns identified about you or those you work with which are of such a severity that they require escalation to ensure safety.

Any personal information you choose to share will be recorded sensitively e.g. “Freya found this situation very difficult on a personal level”. No person-identifiable information regarding those you work with will be recorded. Supervisors receive their own Supervision from the Supervisory Services Manager or director at Safeguarding Network. Information about their work with your setting may be reflected on in those sessions, however this will be anonymised.

Safeguarding Network will securely retain copies of supervision notes for a period of five years following the end of the contract after which time they will be destroyed.

  4. What is a Supervisor?

The Supervisors at Safeguarding Network all have extensive experience in relation to leading and managing safeguarding. Some might have come from a social care background; some might have a background in education. We ensure that there is a suitable match of Supervisor to your setting and what all Supervisors have in common is the expertise and passion required to support you in your safeguarding work via Safeguarding Supervision.
