Children questioning their gender guidance has been incorporated into Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 for consultation. DSLs will be taking significant responsibility in this area and once the guidance has been issued in September Safeguarding Network will be providing careful and balanced support on implementation. Affluent neglect can often sit outside the thinking of professionals in respect of harm, not fitting the commonly held stereotypical views that neglect must be associated with poverty. This can mean that harm to the child can be overlooked and subsumed by the professionals into their relationships with the parents. It can be difficult to spot and equally challenging to deal with.
This session will :
give an overview of the context of affluent neglect
discuss key indicators
highlight the challenges faced by professionals in addressing the concerns with parents / carers.
