This one-day programme aims to support senior Trust Leaders in the increasingly complex role of the oversight of safeguarding across trusts of varying sizes and make up.

Effective safeguarding is a core principle in ANY school or trust and ensuring that schools align with the trusts’ safeguarding values and a consistent approach to practice is key.

Each school must have effective local safeguarding leadership whilst also being aligned to those shared standards. Senior leaders have to find the balance in testing out core Trust values and vision set within the unique profile for each school

The role increasingly holds a responsibility to feed into Boards / Trustees so that they in turn can plan and challenge strategically.

Safeguarding is also likely to hold a place in forthcoming MAT inspections.

Safeguarding across trusts is a complex scenario which also covers the dynamics of the revised inclusion and SEND focus. The course gives the opportunity to look to existing operational and strategic practice and think about the role “in the round”.

The programme is intended for new and experienced Trust safeguarding leaders, and other Trust senior leaders with delegated responsibility for safeguarding oversight. The role holds many facets including:

  • strong assurance

  • challenge

  • training

  • policy alignment

  • case support

  • supervision

  • escalation

These will be explored as a part of reflection and development during the session.

On completion of this course you will be able to: You will be able to:

  • set the consistent vision and values Trust wide in respect of safeguarding practice.

  • structure safeguarding Trust wide QA arrangements.

  • structure a model in respect of a lessons learned culture.

  • recognise and develop key data lines in respect of safeguarding.

  • develop a trust-wide strategic safeguarding plan.

Presenter

Christine Freestone has a broad experience of education and social care. She is former head teacher, inspector, nurse, and senior leader for children in care with a particular passion for working with SEND. Chris works alongside leaders in supporting them to work within the legal frameworks , always with the child at the centre. She understands the vital role of front-line processes in education settings in keeping children safe and supporting staff in doing so. Her style is one of supporting reflective practice and practitioner/leadership development.

Aims and objectives:

The course will give participants the opportunity to explore how they can develop and maintain a secure MAT safeguarding culture, and explore and reflect on:

  • safeguarding quality assurance arrangements.

  • the need for a robust lessons learned Trust-wide culture.

  • the roles of operational and strategic safeguarding practice and data within the Trust.

  • the use and practicality of developing and using a Trust wide strategic safeguarding plan.

What you need to know to attend:

  • There will be the opportunity for discussion , reflection , small group work and networking during the day.

  • The course will be delivered online in one 4.5-hour session.
