Online safety

Cost - £99 per person (£89 for members)

The risks associated with an ever expanding online world are significant, but how do we ensure that children and young people can embrace new technology whilst remaining safe? Aimed at anyone working with children and young people and wanting to expand their knowledge of current issues in online safety, this course considers where the risks lie and how to work with children and young people to keep safe online.

This course seeks to narrow the division between perceptions of ‘online’ and ‘offline’ worlds, helping participants identify with young people’s growing perspective of an integrated digital age. The impact of online activity is a part of what happens in the ‘real’ world, and vice versa.

Presenter

Jamie Phillips is a qualified social worker with a background in residential child care. He has in depth experience in identifying and acting to protect young people from online risks, qualifying as a CEOP ambassador in 2011 and delivering training to young people, foster carers, parents, residential workers, social workers and the police.

He has recently been invited to consult to the South West Grid for Learning, one of the largest online safety organisations in the UK, and a key organisation in the UK Safer Internet Centre. As a currently practising Looked After Children’s social worker for young people aged 14+ and as a parent to two young girls, Jamie brings detailed knowledge of risk online, the synergy between digital media and real world activity, drivers towards abuse and developing the capacity to protective factors for individual young people and as an organisation.
