The prevalence of FGM, abuse linked to faith or belief, and forced marriage is a very serious problem, and anyone who works with vulnerable adults, children, and young people needs to be aware of its indicators and consequences.
This FGM training course helps learners understand these issues, identify vulnerable individuals, and report suspected abuse, using videos and real-life scenarios.
The course will take approximately 3-4 hours to complete, depending on the speed at which you prefer to work through the material. Your progress will be saved automatically, which means you can pause and come back at any time.
At the end of the course, learners will need to complete a short multiple-choice test. Upon successful completion of the test, you will be able to download a CPD-certified FGM training certificate that can be printed and kept for your records.

Accreditation
The content of this course has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines.
Course duration
Approximately three to four hours. The length of time taken depends entirely on how quickly learners can study and absorb the material. Learners can proceed as quickly or slowly as they like as your progress is automatically saved throughout.
Entry requirements
There are no entry requirements for this course.
Test and certificate
The end of course test consists of 15 multiple choice questions. Learners are required to achieve a 75% pass mark, and, if necessary, may attempt the test six times at no extra cost.
If learners do not achieve the 75% pass mark, further attempts may be given by contacting our support team.
Learners will be able to download a digital certificate on completion. This can be printed, and we suggest you keep it for your records.

This course comprises of a number of different modules.
We outline the way in which abuse can be linked to certain areas of faith and belief, such as traditions within culture and ceremonies.
This section will enable you to identify one of the less-known forms of abuse, so you can react appropriately. We define what child abuse linked to faith or belief is, what you can do to help, where it happens, the impact of this form of abuse, outline what type of abuse this consists of and explain how to identify it. There are also interactive challenges and case studies throughout this section to help boost your knowledge.
This part of the course provides scenarios to help you understand different concerns and how the key is to stay alert and actively consider everyone’s situation. It also covers common indicators of abuse linked to spirit possession.
This module ends by explaining what you can do to help by providing dos and don'ts which will help you understand how to help children and young people who are being abused, and what you should avoid.
This part of the training covers the following topics:

It also provides scenarios, case studies and an interactive challenge to help boost your knowledge.
Forced marriage is not always easy to identify, this section of the course explains potential indicators for employers and education settings, the signs to look out for in people's health and family history.
The final part of this module explains how government guidance and the forced marriage unit (FMU) can help as well as providing specific guidance for practitioners.
This section of the training takes you through an exercise with Sami and Aysha. They're in a relationship and Aysha's family arrange a marriage for her to someone else.
There isn't a statutory definition of 'honour'-based abuse but this part of the training explains what 'honour' is, how this type of abuse happens, the consequences of loss of honour and the prevalence of this type of abuse. It includes interactive challenges to check your knowledge throughout.
This section of the training explains the consequences of of 'honour'-based abuse and includes a scenario based video to boost your knowledge.
This part of the course ends by explaining common offences for this type of abuse, provides guidance for practitioners and includes an interactive challenge to boost your knowledge.
This section of the course explains what breast flattening is, how it is carried out, the origins of it and why there is no justification for it, the signs and indicators of it, the prevalence and consequences of it, the law linked to it, guidance for practitioners, why information can be shared without consent and there are scenario based exercises and interactive challenges throughout this section to check your knowledge.
This section of the course covers the definition of FGM and the variations in the way this practice is referred to. We also look at the complex origins of FGM and delve into why it happens, the different types of FGM and the consequences. There are also scenario based exercises and interactive challenges to check your understanding of the topic so far.
This section of the course takes you through a scenario based exercise with Zahra a 16-year-old girl who was born in Egypt, but who has been living in the UK for the last 10 years.
