Welcome to your October DSL Planner Page!
This month our Planner focus is on Parental Mental Ill Health and Parental Substance Misuse.
Poor parental mental health can have a detrimental effect on the health and development of children and young people, which can lead to an increased risk of mental health problems for the children and young people themselves.
Children are at greater risk of harm when they are living in households with parental substance misuse problems, with increased risks of domestic abuse, neglect, a poor home environment and exposure to unsafe substances.
KCSiE tells us that all staff should have an awareness of safeguarding issues that can put children at risk of harm and that the safeguarding training all staff receive should be updated regularly.
What do you and your staff know about the issues of Parental Mental Ill Health and Parental Substance Misuse? Is the training in your setting up-to-date?
Join Safeguarding Network and let us help you develop a structured and comprehensive approach that builds a strong and sustainable safeguarding culture.
Have your staff read and understood KCSiE 2024?

This month’s free gift is a tool to check the right people have read the right sections of Keeping Children Safe in Education. Although people may have read the guidance, it is the impact that matters, so how do you check they’ve understood and can apply what they’ve read?
Access our free document setting out who should read what sections of KCSiE 2024 by completing the form.
