February 2025

Welcome to your February DSL Planner Page!
This month our Planner focus is on Child Substance Misuse and Child Mental Health.
Between April 2023 and March 2024, 14,352 children and young people received alcohol and drug treatment in the UK. The impact of substance misuse on children can at times be devastating, leading to poor academic performance, behavioural problems, and long-term physical and mental health issues.
Around 1-in-5 children have a mental health difficulty in England, but only a third of those were able to access treatment last year. A growing number of children and young people are experiencing mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression and behavioural disorders.
Education settings play a crucial role in identifying and supporting children who may be struggling with substance misuse and/or poor mental health.
Join Safeguarding Network and let us help you develop a structured and comprehensive approach that builds a strong and sustainable safeguarding culture.
