Safeguarding Supervision

This 12-hour course helps structure and approach supervision using an established supervision model to empower staff and focus on the experience and progress of young people. Designed by highly experienced senior managers, the course addresses key dilemmas in balancing the needs of the organisation, the employee and the young people to create a different kind of conversation which both supervisees and supervisors find effective.

Safeguarding Governor Training

The role of the Safeguarding Governor has always held the key responsibilities of support for the DSL , independent review , challenge and timely reporting to governing bodies and Trustees in ensuring children in education are kept safe from harm.

In recent months, this role has expanded to include not only the immediate impact of the pandemic for children , young people and the whole school community but the ongoing impact in terms of learning , progress , safeguarding and vulnerability.

This 8 hour course will seek to support you in the role as well as its’ new dynamic.

Learning outcomes

With Keeping Children Safe in Education at its’ heart we will:

  • review the role and expectations of the Safeguarding Governor within the context of KCSIE 2021
  • explore the role within the context of the governance guidance / responsibilities, statutory guidance and its’ contribution to the wider governance elements of the inspection framework.
  • explore the practicalities of gathering, reviewing, reporting and reflecting on the evidence you gather within the context of an effective working relationship with the Head Teacher, DSL, safeguarding team and school community.
  • apply the principles and practice with reflection and examples / case studies.

By the end of the programme you should have a mini CPD portfolio of resources which will support your role going forward.

Relationships, Sex and Consent

A well respected intervention developed by Jo Adams, former head of the centre for sexual health in Sheffield. On this two day training you will learn how to support healthy relationships and healthy choices giving young people the skills and confidence to decide for themselves when they are really ready for a sexual relationship. It is based on a young person’s rights.

This two day course is relevant for anyone offering support, services, education and advice to young people, including where professionals may have to discuss sex and relationships with young people, and this particular course will also cover children in schools, colleges and homes.

Learning outcomes

The training:

  • Provides participants with a toolbox of activities to use with young people in one-on-one and group settings
  • Examines the causes and effects of early sex and current research findings
  • Enables participants to talk to young people about relationships, sex and readiness with greater ease and confidence
  • Helps participants gain skills to hand on to young people in how to say ‘no’ and resist pressure

DSL Support Programme

This 12-hour course seeks to grow the confidence of newly appointed Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) and their deputies, and to enable them to build on their Local Safeguarding Partnership initial DSL training. Participants will learn more about the knowledge and skills required and further explore the challenges of the role. Designed by experienced senior managers, the course seeks to address compliance with statutory guidance and to initiate the sharing of good practice and ideas on how to create an effective whole school/college safeguarding culture. It is also a good opportunity to create a rapport with a peer network of DSLs.

Course includes:

  • half termly 2 hour training session, deepening knowledge on a range of DSL skills and providing contextual guidance particularly in the changing circumstances of the pandemic
  • 10% discount on external Safeguarding Supervision support (effectively offering the course for free to existing supervision customers)
