December DSL Resources

Our final topic of the year is neglect. As we approach Christmas our children and young people will have varying degrees of excitement. Staff should exercise caution with cultural assumptions of goodwill and seasonal cheer and make space to understand the fear and heightened risk some young people experience at this time of year. The gap between the 'haves' and 'have nots' widens, family divisions appear more starkly and the impact of drug and alcohol misuse and mental illness is heightened.

Consider which of your young people may need a bit more support and preparation through this month, and which need a safety plan to follow should things go wrong.

Our CPD document this month is an exploration of leadership safeguarding culture.
